Opportunity Snapshot
This position offers you the opportunity not only to help create innovative products -- digital modeling electric guitars, amplifiers, effects processors, and more -- but also to work with an industry leader committed to being first to market with technology driven music and audio products. And these great products are made by great people; at Line 6 you will find a family-like culture that is fun, results-oriented, and collaborative. You'll also find a passion for music in everything we do. We're not all musicians, but we're all music lovers. When you go to a concert or watch music videos, you'll be able to point to the equipment onstage and say, "I helped design that."
You will play a leading role in the design, development, and testing of all applicable hardware for new product development, from electronic circuit design to providing tech support for overseas manufacturers. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have significant experience in electronic hardware design and a demonstrated ability to architect a design from both the digital and analog perspective. We're looking for a hands-on, detail oriented professional with the organizational skills and accountability to meet commitments in a fast-paced environment. While a background in music is preferred, enthusiasm for music and our vision is required.
Line 6's passion for excellence and commitment to the development of new technologies has attracted the industry's best engineers and designers, a formidable roster of artist endorsers (including Sarah McLauchlan, Chuck D of Public Enemy, U2's the Edge, Xavier Padilla of Gypsy Kings, and many more), and an active, informed user base -- a combination that leaves Line 6 well-equipped to take on the enviable challenges of continued growth. We are profitable and healthy, and EVERY regular full time employee is given a grant of pre-IPO stock options.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
A BSEE or equivalent.
Five to ten years of direct experience in electronic hardware design and mixed signal hardware design, including developing schematics, PCB layouts, prototypes, and test protocols.
Strong analog design skills with good understanding of mixed-signal systems design.
A demonstrated ability to achieve goals autonomously.
PC operating skills for word processing, spreadsheets and CAD programs.
The ability to read schematics and other technical documents.
Skill in operating all standard test equipment used for electrical engineering testing.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred but not required:
Experience with firmware programming or systems design.
Bilingual skills in Mandarin or Cantonese.
What's in It for You

Best Home-Recording solution from Guitar Player Reader's Choice Award for the TonePort UX2.

Editors' Choice Award from www.MusiciansLife.de for the TonePort KB37.
22nd Annual Editor's Choice Award in Hardware from Musician's Interface for the TonePort UX2.
Best Floor Effect from Music & Sound for Floor POD.
Autonomy and accountability -- if you're the person we're looking for, you appreciate the productivity that can be achieved by combining creativity and organization. You are as proud of your ability to deliver innovation as of your ability to deliver against tight schedules.
Strong growth orientation -- we are pursuing an aggressive growth strategy and our environment is very much like that of the high tech industry. As you contribute to that growth you will be in a position to take advantage of the "upward draft" of opportunity it creates.
Great company culture -- we've taken a proactive approach to developing an atmosphere that helps our people create success, from hosting company events like an annual picnic complete with a battle of the bands to providing a game room with foosball, ping-pong, and Guitar Hero. You'll join a fun, innovative, creative cast of characters who work hard and love what they do.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and annual bonus plan, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and life insurance plans; a 401(k) plan; a generous allotment of paid time off; and more. And don't forget about the pre-IPO stock options!
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
You will join a team that includes the Director of Hardware Engineering, the Lead Hardware Design Engineer (to whom you will report), and five other Hardware Design Engineers. This team is part of an overall R&D group of about 70. For the most part you'll focus on new product development, although there will be some sustaining work for existing products. In fact, this role includes a little bit of everything -- you won't be bored!
In general you will focus on one or sometimes two main projects at any given time, and these typically include multiple variations. Like all the EEs, you'll also lend your expertise to other projects as well. For your assigned projects you'll act as lead hardware design engineer, assuming responsibility for all things electrical, and your activities will include:
Working with Product Development to create hardware systems requirements for TRD.
Performing and/or overseeing all S&Q Testing.
Designing schematic entry and PCB Layout.
Ensuring EMC and safety compliance testing and certification.
Troubleshooting analog and digital circuits.
Providing documentation support for S&Q testing, compliance, part approvals, assembly instructions, and ECOs.
Providing technical support for overseas contract manufacturers.
Providing test fixture support.
Mentoring junior members of the hardware engineering staff.
Submitting accurate and timely status reports.
Our manufacturing facilities are in China and you may travel there, although we anticipate that your travel will be no more than 5% of the time.
Keys to Success
To excel in this role you will leverage your knowledge and experience to achieve your goals independently, but you also will bring a collaborative spirit and help others just as they will help you. You also will remain flexible in your schedule; we make an effort to maintain a normal schedule, although we take our delivery commitments very seriously. In addition, we may ask you to stay into the evening on occasion to have phone conferences with contacts in China.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
Who We Are
Most non-musicians are unaware that the past fifty years of guitar amplifier technology has had a more significant impact on the history of rock music than the electric guitar itself. In the mid-1990's, Line 6 set out to meet the needs of today's guitarist by harnessing technology to turn a wide range of great tone into a reality for every guitarist.
We released the world's first digital modeling guitar amplifier in 1996 and our revolutionary POD line of audio interface/effects processing solutions in 1997, and we haven't looked back. Line 6 products now include a full line of guitar and bass amplifiers; pedalboards and stomp boxes; an extensive line of acoustic, bass, and electric guitars (including Gibsons and Fenders), and music workstation software.
Line 6's growing success has resulted in significant recognition by top-tier companies and media, including the Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies for two consecutive years, Deloitte and Touches Fast 50 and Nationwide Fast 500, LA Business Journal as #5 in the top 100 Fastest Growing Technology Companies, San Fernando Business Journal as both one of the Fastest Growing Private Companies and Largest Technology Firms, and the Pacific Coast Business Times as #6 in the Top 25 Companies To Watch.
